Experience harvest

Working as a CBH harvest casual is a great opportunity to explore, live, work and immerse yourself in regional Western Australia for a short period of time while earning decent wages.

CBH manages sites across regional WA where our growers deliver their grain once it has been harvested, and each year we recruit a pool of harvest employees to help us keep these sites moving, getting growers and transporters in and out safely, quickly and back to harvesting.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Applications for our 2023/24 intake will commence 3 July
  • No experience? Don't stress! We provide paid training
  • Depending on weather conditions and location, the season usually commences in October and generally lasts up to 6 weeks
  • Hours can be long and up to 12 hours per day and in some cases working 6 days out of a 7 day period
  • We have free, basic accommodation available at most of our receival sites (please note: no accommodation is provided at our Terminals)
  • Your working location may be remote, as far as 100km from the nearest town
  • Conditions can be very hot and dry with constant grain dust around
  • Keen to work with your friend, partner or family member? While there is no guarantee that we can place you together, we recommend that you both nominate the same zone and site when completing your application.

Physical requirements

To make sure that everyone is safe at our sites and that our harvest employees can do the job properly, all harvest employees need to be able to:

  • Bend, stretch, lift, carry and climb
  • Stand for long periods
  • Work at heights above ground level with use of safety equipment
  • Walk along steel mesh walkways with side rails above ground level (up to 30 metres)
  • Work in confined spaces
  • Work in areas with high grain dust concentrations (respiratory & eye protection available)
  • Work exposed to outside elements
  • Comply with CBH Sun Protection and Heat Stress Workplace Health and Safety Standards – which means wearing long sleeves and trousers and sturdy leather footwear

Application process

  1. Applications open

With positions both regionally and in the Metro areas, there are a range of opportunities across our operations and positions for different experience levels.

Applications open early July and usually close around September. To apply, click here.
Once you have applied, please keep an eye on your emails as all communications will be sent via email.
  2. Pre-employment screening

As part of your application, you will be required to complete pre-employment screening which includes two tasks at this stage:
    1. Evidence of working rights: this involves uploading evidence of your right to work in Australia, which generally involves either your Passport, or birth certificate and photo ID.
    2. Medical declaration: a short online survey to disclose any medical information to ensure you are fit to perform the role; keeping both you and CBH safe.
  3. Information Sessions

If you haven’t worked a harvest with us before, or it’s been a while you may be invited to attend an information session. This involves coming along to one of the many sessions we run, listening to a short information session run by a member of the CBH team and then breaking into small groups to answer any questions you may have about our seasonal roles.
  4. Onboarding

Onboarding requires providing your personal information via a secure, online platform.
  5. Training

Seasonal staff are required to complete both online and onsite training. Your online training will be completed during your onboarding and once complete, will enable you to complete onsite training.

Onsite training generally comprises of 1 day onsite, learning about the machinery, processes, and conditions on site. If you are selected to go to Sampling training, you may be required to complete some additional online and onsite training.
  6. Placement

Should you be successful for a placement with CBH over the harvest season, you will be contacted by your site regarding your placement and any other requirements.
